We had our CD release party on Feb 12th, and it was a huge success. Thanks to the band: Dan Kutcher (bass), Paul Weinberg (drumz), Lawrence Lanahan (guitar/vox), Mario D’Ambrosio (sax), and special guests, on vocals, Sara Kryscio and Harry Abramson, and Dave Finnell on trumpet.

I’d also like to thank our excellent opening act, Pimp Oscar and Lobster for the backdrops and killer performance, Nathan Rudolph at Klassic Sound, Jaymz Curran for the sick light show, Megan Ween at the merchandise table, Kenny Kopper for working the door, Dave Frieman, and Eric Huckleberry for lugging equipment around, Will and Danielle Winkler for the Vacation Brain cake, and the fine folks at Frazier’s on The Avenue for letting us do whatever we want.

Also, big ups to the JWB fans that came out to support us. We love you, and hope you continue to check out shows while we grow as a band. Stay tuned for more show dates.

Peace,

Whartscape day 3 Highlights! weather: Hot as fuck>windy/deluge>beautiful

1. The band ‘In Every Room’ was pretty awesome. Got a cool shirt of theirs for $5.
2. $1 Yellow Watermelon Slices.
3. ‘Little Howlin’ Wolf’ weirdness (a man that looks a lot like that mug shot of Nick Nolte playing a sax, and recorders through his nose and scatting gravely jibberish through 2 hand held mics), 2 pretty tambourine girls clapping, wining, and howling into a single mic behind him, a bass player, a percussionist, and a multi-instrumentalist all playing at the same time, but not really together. It reminded me of a ramshackle version of Sun Ra’s strange strings, but nowhere as musical. It was stupid brilliant.
4. After that set a huge gust of wind ripped the tarps that were covering the stages and a bunch of people ran over to hold the tarps up while the bands tried to figure out what to do. Seconds later it started pouring down rain, so a few of us ran over to Mick O’Sheas for Natty Bohs and calamari.
5. The parking lot where the mini fest was held was trashed by the time we got back, and the party was moved over to Sonar. A major upgrade. Why? a. You couldn’t bring beer into the parking lot where it was originally held. b.The remaining bands got optimal sound and lights. c. Sonar is a little closer to my house (we biked)
6. Wye Oak = Awesome
7. Deakin from Animal Collective played a short but sweet set of psychedelic guitar washes and vocal mantras. Very meditative stuff.
8. Ran into Geologist and Avey Tare from Animal Collective. Told them I was a fan, and they thought that was cool. They told Pat they’re gonna record some more.
9.’Celebration’ was great. Their singer wails, and I think she works at Holy Frijoles.
10. HEALTH!!! Sick ass band. One of the coolest things we saw/heard all day. I believe they’re from LA
11. Beach House was pretty cool. I thought their paper mache rotating tinsel diamonds were kind of dumb, but whatevs.
12. Uphills on the bike ride home were brutal.
13. All good days end at The Fraiz.
